Open Water Races
NextGen hosts multiple open water races throughout the year to provide fun and safe opportunities for the open water community—whether you're training for a race in a race, or just looking for a great swim. Our events are open to youth and adult swimmers from all backgrounds and experience levels—from seasoned triathletes, to USA Swimming teams, to Masters swimmers, and even first-time open water swimmers.
Chris Sustala (Coach Crash) knows Lake Longhorn well and personally plans and executes each of our races. As an experienced USA Swimming and Masters coach, open water swimmer, and Ironman triathlete, he brings the knowledge and expertise to make race day exceptional!

Shark Attack at Lake Longhorn
The Shark Attack is an open water race held at Lake Longhorn in League City. Ironman distances are typically offered, and athletes can choose to swim any combination of events for a single entry fee. The event features fun individual and team awards, music, event shirts, burgers, and a clean, calm, and safe course.
This is more than just a race—it's an experience!

The April Fool's Open Water Swim
The April Fool's Race is also held at Lake Longhorn and offers longer distances as well as a 500 m course to challenge open water swimmers of all levels. It's offered at a reduced cost to help swimmers kick-start the race season and get in some quality training ahead of their next big open water event.
